The news of Jimmy Cobb’s passing is sad. I offer condolences to his loved ones. Jimmy Cobb was one of the handful of drummers who changed the music indelibly. The inimitable swing feel we know and love so much from him - what many call “tipping” - was simply not there until he gave it to us. His musicality and subtlety were unmatched. The joy he has given me as a listener for decades and playing with him a short while, is a treasure I hold in my heart. Today I’m listening to “No Blues” from Wes Montgomery & Wynton Kelly Trio - unparalleled swing that goes down as deep, courtesy of the great Jimmy Cobb. Rest in peace, Jimmy. You made all of our lives richer and will continue to do so.
